The Bloomington Karate Center was first opened in April 1974 by then 8th Degree Master Jun Sun Hyon. Master Hyon emigrated from Korea and opened the first Tae Kwon Do school in Minnesota in 1965. The Bloomington location was the fifth of six schools he opened before retiring in 1977.
Upon retirement, Master Hyon sold the Bloomington location to 7th Degree Master Tim Mullin who had been running the location since 1975. Mr. Mullin's student 5th Degree and K.I.C.K. World Super Featherweight Kickboxing Champion CB Bunkholt, became head Instructor in 1998 and ran the school until 2008. Today the school is run by a coordinated effort of Mr. Mullin and his Black Belts and is the oldest and largest martial art school in Bloomington.
The Bloomington Karate Center has been doing business in Bloomington since 1974, longer than any other martial arts school in Bloomington. All of our instructors are certified and accredited by The World Hapkido Federation.
The Bloomington Karate Center is one of the largest facilities of its type in the Midwest. With over 5,000 square feet and fully equipped with boxing ring, locker rooms, showers, and a very spacious workout area.
