The December test has been changed to the first weekend of the month and will be at 7:00 pm on Friday the 7th. Our annual Holiday Party will follow immediately and everyone is invited. Please stop by even if it is for just a little while. It is always fun to see many that we do not see except for special events like this.
Black Belt Classes will continue every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
The December test has been changed to the first weekend of the month and will be at 7:00 pm on Friday the 7th. Our annual Holiday Party will follow immediately and everyone is invited. Please stop by even if it is for just a little while. It is always fun to see many that we do not see except for special events like this. On Wednesday October 24th the 6:00 class will be limited to students of Green Belt rank or higher. The topic of this class is "The Art of Fighting without Fighting". The focus will be on the metaphysical aspects of fighting.
Congratulations to Mr. Luan To and Mr. Mark Bettes in their promotion to 3rd Dan Black Belt. Additionally congratulations to Mr. Dave Saum on his public promotion to 6th Dan Black Belt and Master level. The test was a great time and it was good to see many of you who we have not seen in some time. Look forward to our December Promotion Test as there will be several looking at higher Black Belt rank at that time.
On Wednesday October 3rd my normal 6:00 pm class will be changed to an open forum class intitled "Everything you wanted to know about the Martial Arts but were afraid to ask". This class is open to any and all students of BKCI. It has been decided to combine both the Black Belt and the lower belt tests due to the fact there are not as many testing as we had originally thought. The September Test will be Friday September 7th at 7:00 pm. Please make note this is the first Friday of the month as our tests are usually the second Friday of every month.
At this time, 3 Black Belts are still attending the Black Belt classes for recognition to be apart of the September test. They are: Mr. Mark Bettes Mr. Luan To Mr. Dick (Scott) Legus I invite you all to attend this coming advance promotion test. Mr. Frank Babcock will be flying in for the test and to celebrate Mr. Saum's promotion to 6th Dan. More information will follow. As it stands right now we have the Black Belt test scheduled for September 7th at 7:00 pm and the lower belt test scheduled for September 14th at 6:00 pm. Originally we were looking at 6 Black Belts testing with an award ceremony for Mr. Saum's promotion to 6th Dan Black Belt. Currently we have only 3 Black Belts still looking at testing and we will not know exactly how many will be testing until later this month.
There is a possibility depending on how many Black Belts and lower belts total will be testing that we may combine both tests on the 7th of September. Further information will be available soon. We have decided to postpone the Hapkido seminar we were originally looking at having on September 8th to sometime this coming spring when we can put more energy in it's promotion. This seminar will be open to the public and we plan on several sister Hapkido schools from around the country attending. Please watch for future postings. I will be adding a Black Belt class on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm starting May 9th and continuing through August. This will allow all Black Belts to train and prepare with my attention for the test. I would suggest this is also an excellent opportunity for those Black Belts who have not been training for a while or even a long time to come back in and work on Hapkido. These classes will be designed to make it very easy for you to come back even if it has been many years since you have trained.
The September promotional test will consist of two testing dates. One test will be for Black Belts only and the other for all other ranks. The exact dates have yet to be decided but more than likely the Black Belt test will be September 7th
or 8th with the color belts testing the following Friday September 14th. My intent is to Promote Mr. Dave Saum to 6th Dan in September. He will be giving a demonstration at the Black Belt promotion test. Additionally, several Black Belts have been recognized for potential promotion. I am making this information available to you all well in advance to allow further consideration to any others who are interested in promotion. We are trying to coordinate a Hapkido seminar the same weekend and are looking at bringing in the current directors of the World Hapkido Federation to conduct it. If you go to their web page which you can access through the Bloomington Karate web page you will see information on the seminars that have been conducted in the past and are scheduled for this year. The seminars in Greece and Mexico are good examples of what we are looking at doing. The proposed schedule would be the Black Belt test Friday the 7th and the seminar Saturday the 8th. This seminar would be open to all in the area regardless of school, style or rank. Here is the current breakdown and status of the September Black Belt Test: Recommended: Mr. Dave Saum – 6th Dan Candidates: Mr. Seth Halvorson – 4th Dan Mr. Mark Bettes – 3rd Dan Mr. Ben Chung – 2nd Dan Mr. Scott Legus – 2nd Dan Requesting: Mr. Luan To – 3rd Dan Ms. Lisa Davis - 2nd Dan If you are requesting consideration please discuss this with me soon. More information will follow as we get closer to knowing who all will be involved in both the test and the potential seminar. This is public information so please feel free to share with anyone you know who has an interest. Tim Mullin |
